Environmental Working Group/Cell Phone Protection Standards

The EWG – Environmental Working Group – just published it’s cell phone radiation study, report and guide to reducing cell phone radiation. What about protective products? Do they work? Should they be certified by a standards agency?

The latest on cell phone radiation health risks is coming out of the Environmental Working Group.

This is an independent organization whose purpose you can read about on their site. I find this site to be an excellent resource and use it to research the safety of household and cosmetic products. I highly recommend you visit the site, bookmark it, and refer to it often.

EWG has just released the results of a 10-year study.
See the entire report here.

Long-term studies give us valid and reliable information. I welcome the publication of the EWG study as it will encourage consumers to become more proactive regarding their cell phone radiation exposure by 1) taking personal precautions; and 2) urging legislators to establish a truly protective standard and create a standard for products claiming to provide cell phone radiation protection.

As founder and CEO of SafeCell Ltd. (Israel), I have approached our Standards Institute through many channels, including scientists who have worked there, as well as the Ministry of Health, and neither body is willing to look at the SafeCell or any other cell phone radiation protection product. Why? Because they don’t have to. There is no law requiring them to do so in order to evaluate whether a product is safe and effective to a particular standard because NO STANDARD HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED.

We need to approach concerned lawmakers to make this issue a priority.
Due to the high percentage of people who use cell phones and the potential harm, there needs to be a standard set for mobile phone radiation protection products. Without a standard, it is possible for anyone to market a product with any claim and sell it to unsuspecting consumers. When using a cell phone with one of these bogus products, one has a false sense of security that will inevitably lead them to using their phone MORE, because they now feel safe to do so. Which, of course, puts them in greater danger due to the increase in exposure.

No product should be allowed on the market without proof of its efficacy.

We have tested several products through the MSAS BioMeridian Testing System
with a certified and experienced diagnostician, Naturopath Dr. Susan Wolff, N.D.

I will give the general results for the different products we’ve tested
ranging from totally ineffective in strengthening the body against the effects of cell phone radiation (F), to some effect (C), to very effective (A)

EMF Blues [link] ceramic bead ($20)  F rating
BioPro Cell Phone Chip ($40)         C rating
this product also loses effectiveness
over time – a fact the distributor may be unaware of, or
not share with you

SarShield      ($20)    C rating

IIREC/Zone030 sticker ($20) C rating
and this product also has an expiration date, so you need to replace it at least every 2 – 3 years, depending on when you purchased it.

SafeCell ($29.95) A rating

The SafeCell never needs replacing.
It is the advanced version of the same product that BioPro Technologies used to market before they switched to the inferior technology they currently use. If you have one of these chips, return it and demand a full refund to the distributor you bought it from.

The manufacturer of SafeCell has been developing the product over the last 10 years and using the same technology to create other products for EMF and cell phone radiation protection. For more information please visit our website or contact me, Esti: 866-820-3431 (toll-free).

Please feel free to leave your comments on this blog: what do you think about the need for legislation? Should the issue be treated the same as cigarette smoking with government mandated safety warnings, etc?

Cheap Cell Phones Pose Health Risk

From:http://telecompk.net/2009/05/08/counterfeit-cell-phones-china-health-dangers/

Fake Cell Phones From China Can Be Dangerous

New York Times wrote an interesting piece about the large number of counterfeits and no-name knockoffs produced in China. This goes beyond the business issues. There are health hazards associated with these phones, due to excessive radiation or exploding batteries.

The article notes that “Technological advances have allowed hundreds of small Chinese companies, some with as few as 10 employees, to churn out what are known here as shanzhai, or black market, cellphones, often for as little as $20 apiece.”

More on Cell Phone Radiation and Brain Tumors

from: http://omega.twoday.net/stories/5679398/
Beware, exorbitant cell phone use may cause brain tumor…

You’ll read at the end of the article that many of the animal studies involve animals that have been treated to be pre-disposed to developing cancer.

Many, but not all.

Still, if we talk to the oncologists, they are reporting an increase of at least 25% in the number of tumors of the head they see compared to a decade ago.
———————–
If you are still using an unprotected cell phone, ask yourself – is it worth the risk? What if you purchased a proven protection product and later found out that you didn’t need it. Would the $20 or $30 spent on that protection really seem a waste? Think what you spend $20-30 on, on any given day, and what do you have to show for it?

I am speaking to the skeptics out there. Those of you who are still saying, “Well, they haven proven that there is a danger.” or “Well, how do I know this product works.”

We know there is a danger, if you look at the facts, you’ll see. The problem is that the problem is too big to fathom and many people would rather put their head in the sand and pretend there is no danger.

The product is CE certified (European safety certification) even though no certification is necessary. There is no standard for these kind of products, though I am pushing for a standard to be established in order to protect the public from bogus products.

Our product has the proof of thermal imaging, blood tests and energetic tests, in addition to testimonials. We will soon show you physician endorsement of the product as well.

Cell Phone Towers: NIMBY

cellular antenna

cellular antenna

In case you don’t know what NIMBY is:
Not In My Back Yard. We all want great cell phone reception. We want to be able to talk about everything and nothing everywhere we go, but we don’t want those darn antennae in our neighborhoods or on our schools, or anywhere we can see them. And not just because they’re eye-sores. Because we’re afraid of them. We may not be sure why, but our intuition tells us these antennae may not be the best for our health or our kids’ health.

Well guess what? A court in Israel has just confirmed what your gut has been telling you: “Cellular Antennae are Dangerous to Health” [Hamakor, 27.2.09, page 1]. A group of tenants sued Pelephone (Motorola), after it put antennae on their buildings and the antennae interfered with other electrical appliances.

The judge issued harsh criticism of the cell phone company’s policy regarding antennae placement and put the burden of proving safety ON THE CELL PHONE COMPANY.

The judge, Malka Aviv, of the Jerusalem District Court said in her ruling that if there was enough electrical interference to completely disrupt the functioning of household appliances, the human body was no match for that kind of radiation. And that there is enough evidence of health risks from cellular technology for the court to act to ’save life’ or ‘pikuach nefesh’, the term in Jewish law that puts saving a human life above all else. It is a supreme value of Judaism.

The plaintiffs weren’t claiming health problems. Their complaint was that their TV and stereo system didn’t work, they were unsuccessful in evicting the cell phone company or getting a new tenant for the space the tenants had occupied.

The suit did note that the antennae were installed without proper municipal permits. Judge Aviv pointed out that the plaintiffs were constantly exposed to radiation, the effects of which may become apparent at any time now or in the future.

As she said, it’s the court job to use logic to fill in the blanks in the absence of absolute proof – or at least that’s what I understood her to stay.

I, for one, am grateful for the ruling. The question is: will it hold up as it seems based on so much subjective reasoning on the part of the respected judge?

If nothing else, it puts the issue back on the table for scrutiny and debate.

A strong statement from a court of law, which I hope will go far to convincing the naysayers, and wake the complacent.

Passive Cell Phone Radiation

Considerations for cell phone use etiquette.

I’m in the supermarket picking out cereal and I look up and there’s a man, with the cell phone wedged between his ear and his shoulder, picking out cereal. I presume his wife is on the other end, gently encouraging him, “Just relax, now pull back gently on the box until is slides off the shelf. Now set the box – easy now – into the shopping cart. Did you do it? Great. I knew you could land the cereal!”

Whew! Another shopping catastrophe avoided. I mean, my goodness, what would have happened if he had taken home Cheerios instead of Corn Flakes? And, what would have happened, if he’s knocked a box or two onto the floor while balancing the phone on one shoulder, holding the shopping list in one hand, and taking the cereal box off the shelf? I shudder to think.

Once again, the mobile phone to the rescue! Da da da da!!! Leaps tall buildings in a single bound….

With our cell phones in hand we are never alone. We never have to remember anything. We never have to actually write the directions down. We don’t have to arrive on time.

We can always just call.

So, are we empowered by having a cell phone – or just the opposite?

Have you noticed by this point that I started out wanting to write about etiquette, but have gone in a different direction? This happens once I site down to write. Can’t stop those creative juices from flowing! But bear with me, because I will get back to the main idea!

It appears that we’ve become so dependent on cell phones that we don’t bother to commit anything to memory to be responsible for arriving on time, getting directions, making shopping lists or anything. We’ll just pick up the phone. Is dependence power? What do you think? Can you try, for one day, to get through the mundane tasks of your day without using the cell phone? Before each call, stop and ask
Yourself – if I didn’t have my mobile with me, how would I handle this situation? How would I resolve this problem? Try it and see what sense of power comes back to you. Share your experience here on this blog.

What does this have to do with etiquette? Well, everything.

Just imagine for a moment that the need to call is a need to smoke. How would you feel about all those people, everywhere you go, lighting up a cigarette right next to you: on the bus, on the train, in the supermarket, in the theatre, in the waiting room?

Well, smoking isn’t allowed in any of those places, is it? So we don’t have to worry about that happening. It would be intolerable.

So what about those same people, making a cell phone call, right next to you and your kids, without any concern for the radiation being directed to their own head by choice or the radiation they are now exposing you to, without your consent?

I think it’s unfair and inconsiderate. No one has the right to subject me to their cigarette smoke, nor do they have the right to expose me to dangerous cell phone radiation.

It’s really become an epidemic. No matter where you go, people are using their cell phones. What can you do, if you don’t want to be exposed this radiation?

I find myself distancing myself from people on phones, changing seats. I’ve even begun to ask people to take their phone call away from me – the same as I’d do with cigarette smoke.

Will we get to a point where cell phone calls are banned on trains and buses? In grocery stores? Will there be special mobile phone call areas in stores, malls and other public places to keep us safe from the radiation we don’t choose to be exposed to?

I think there need to be. And either cell phones will have to be made safe (not safer, but SAFE – as an absolute) or we’ll need to make exposure to radiation a choice rather than a foregone conclusion, by creating special phone call areas, wi-fi and wi-fi free zones in restaurants and other special places and the like.

Does it seem too far-fetched to you? Share your thoughts here – that’s what blogs are for.

In the meantime, set an example – be considerate of those around you if you absolutely must make a phone call. Take your call outside or at least 1 meter away from other people – especially children.
Don’t use your phone in crowds, restaurants or malls. Use text messaging instead whenever possible.

Cell Phone Radiation Affects Memory

In previous posts I’ve written about the damage to the blood-brain barrier – the study referenced below reinforces previous findings and goes further to show the leakage of a protein into the brain tissue and nerve damage that affect memory. The blood-brain barrier is meant to keep substances out of the brain tissue that do not belong there. A damaged blood-brain barrier leaves the brain exposed to anything circulating in the blood – including carcinogenic chemicals from cigarette smoke, for example.

——————————————————-

Swedish researchers have found memory impairment in rats exposed to cell phone radiation for two hours every week for more than a year.

Henrietta Nittby and her supervisor Leif Salford, of the neurosurgery division of Lund University, Sweden, believe that the findings may be related to the team’s earlier findings, that microwave radiation from cell phones can affect the so-called blood-brain barrier.

Salford and his associates have previously found that albumin, a protein that functions as a transport molecule in the blood, leaks into brain tissue when lab animals are exposed to mobile phone radiation.

The research team also found certain nerve damage in cerebral cortex and in the hippocampus, the memory centre of the brain.

“We now see that things happen to the brains of lab animals after cell phone radiation. The next step is to try to understand why this happens,” said Nittby.

Irrespective of why it happens, it’s time the young and restless give some break to cell phone usage!

—————————————————-

Notice these poor rats were exposed only 2 hours/week! How many of you use your phone that much in a day? Of course, the human head is larger and it’s not clear from this article whether the study was designed to emulate human head exposure. Still the findings should make cell phone users take note and reduce their usage.

SafeCell phone tips:

1. Use only a protected cell phone – real protection as available from SafeCell- 1-866-820-3431/Israel 09-8842663.

2. Keep calls as short as possible and for emergency calls only.

3. Keep phone away from body.

4. Use phone on speaker if possible.

5. Headsets do not offer protection – don’t get a false sense of security by using one.

No One Knows Cell Phones Like the Swedes!

Sweden is the land of cell phones: Nokia and Ericson are headquartered there. The effects of EMF (electromagnetic fields) and cell phone radiation in particular have been studied there for nearly 2 decades, at least.

I share with you the following items that come out of Sweden and Germany on the subject.

10 Cell Phone Radiation Protection Tips
By admin
Professor Leif Salford, Head of Research at Lund University, Sweden AWToy.com There are now estimated to be 208 million cell phone users in the US alone, 1.9 billion worldwide. Scientists fear we may be on the verge of a health crisis

And Germany’s official radiation protection body also advises its citizens to use landlines instead of mobile phones, and warns of “electrosmog” from a wide range of other everyday products, from baby monitors to electric blankets.

What I’m telling people is that we ARE on the verge of a major human health catastrophe – the likes of which mankind has never experienced. Bigger than the Black Plague, bigger than the AIDS epidemic – and much more devastating.

I know this sounds like the rantings of a doomsday theorist. It’s too drastic to contemplate. We don’t want to believe that we are actually doing this damage to ourselves. Well, why not? We alter our food with microwave ovens, pollute our food chain with pesticides, hormones and other chemicals. And for what? All in the name of profits. There are lots of people manking huge amounts of money to do the planet in, and we allow it to happen. I know, this sounds like the stuff of conspiracy-theory buffs.

Just consider: if most of the population were smokers, not just the 18-25% (as is the case in most Western countries), what would the health consequences be for the smokers, the passive smokers, the children of smokers? We already pay a very high price for allowing this drug to be peddled. What if the number of smokers were doubled? Or tripled? What picture do you see?

Now apply it to cell phones where there is near saturation of cell phone use among the population. Here in Israel, most everyone from age 12 and up has a phone. Children even younger often carry them, as well. In Australia there is a population of 22 million people – 21 million of whom carry a cell phone.

If all these people are exposing their brain cells to microwaves on a consistent basis – what is this world going to look like in 10 years? I’ll tell you: at least a 25% increase in brain tumors and other tumors of the head such as the parotid gland, acoustic nerve and eye tumors. What will happen to the work force? To health costs?

What about the children who are beginning to accumulate the damage now, impairing their development on every level: behavior, intellectual, emotional, and motor? What kind of people will be left to run the world – a very impaired group of people. People with impaired mental function and impaired immune function, making them even more susceptible to other toxins we’ve created and ingest in our air, water and food.

It’s not a pretty picture, and I pray that I won’t have the opportunity to say “I told you so.”

If you read the articles in this post, you’ll see there is sound scientific evidence for everything I’ve written here and a great deal of reason to be alarmed.

Call to action: accept that cell phones are harmful and use your phone judiciously – that means to use your home phone (corded) for most calls. Use your cell phone for quick, emergency calls only. Use your phone outdoors and away from others. You do not have permission to radiate anyone else’s brain. Be considerate. Consider the cell phone an emergency only tool. Use the text messaging for non-essential communication such as ‘What time are you coming home?’ or ‘What else do we need from the store?’ And remember when you used to manage your life without a cell phone?

It’s still possible. Give it a try. I dare ya.

Cell Phone Radiation Protection: Bluff or Fluff?

At least the rhyme worked in English. For my Hebrew blog I couldn’t think of an appropriate word for ‘fluff’ that translated as a rhyme to ‘bluff’, which, incidentally, is the same word in Hebrew.

On to our post:
Now that the issue of cell phone radiation is starting to take center stage, with more media attention, official warnings and increased public awareness, we can expect to see more and more products on the market claiming to provide protection. So, how is the consumer to know which of these products really works and which are just bluffs and gimmicks designed to take their hard-earned cash and put them in even more danger due to the false sense of security they provide?

Firstly, beware of anything that claims to “block”, “filter”, “neutralize”, “shield” the radiation. Even if the product could do any of those things you would be in even more danger because your cell phone would increase the power to make up for the signal blockage – which, in essence is what these products would be doing – and therefore, increasing the radiation output. The other consequence of some of these actions would be rendering your cell phone completely useless. It would be SAFER that way, but also useless. An inconvenient clock at best.

So then what is REAL protection? Scientifically designed, tested and proven protection? Look for a product that 1) provides energy balancing; 2) prevents the heating of the brain tissue; and 3) provides cellular strengthening.

When I became concerned about this issue and began to search for protective products, I found several on the market that sounded, from their sales page, as plausible protective devices. Until we tested them. There were those that provided no protection at all, according to our tests, and some that provided weak protection. Some of these products also carry an expiration date – and that was unacceptable to me. I will post the results of our testing for your review.

The only device that met all our criteria is the Trio cell phone protection, marketed by our company as the Safe Cell Phone Button. It’s really a sticker, that you simply stick on your phone.

What is it and how does it work? It’s a material that is a frequency carrier and is embedded with natural frequencies, that is those that occur naturally in our environment and resonate with our bodies own natural energy field (bio-field). These frequencies harmonize with the cell phone frequency, creating a bio-friendly, even beneficial frequency.

With the Safe Cell Phone Button you are protected on all levels:
1) it maintains energy balance, eliminating stress and fatigue from cell phone radiation exposure;
2) it prevents the overheating of the brain tissues;
3) it maintains cellular integrity and even strengthens the cells maintaining inter-cellular communication.

I personally wouldn’t let anyone I care about carry an unprotected cell phone.

Don’t take chances with cheap gimmicks. Get your whole family protected with the only proven technology that provides ever-lasting protection.

That’s right – ever-lasting. It never needs replacing! It’s a one-time purchase. So, how important is your health to you?

Are you going to risk your health and that of your family’s:

brain tumors, eye tumors, headaches, fatigue, sleep disorders, blood-brain damage, developmental damage to children? Most diseases are stress-related – cell phone radiation and constant EMF exposure are stressors that the human body hasn’t evolved to contend with.

I urge you to get protected today. Order by phone: 1-866-820-3431 and use your credit card. Ask for special discounts for volume orders.

Cell Phone Radiation Standards: Acceptable Risk?

What are cell phone radiation standards? Who determined them and how? Do mobile phones comply with the standard?

Are the standards enough? Is there a safe level of cell phone radiation or are we just living with ‘acceptable risk’? What is ‘acceptable risk’?

Wow. That’s a lot to tackle in one blog post, but we’ll give it a go.

Safe mobile phone radiation levels were determined by the International Committee for Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, a worldwide,multi-disciplinary team of researchers and scientists studying the effects of non-ionizing radiation such as that emitted by cell phones. Non ionizing simply means that the energy is not strong enough to break ionic bonds. Initially thought to be harmless because of that fact, but eventually found to cause biological effects in lab research and in humans as well. See the full report here.

This team of experts determined that 2 miliwat/kg of exposure was a safe level, or at least a standard to hold the cell phone manufacturers to. What this means is that per kilo of tissue, the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) must be 2 miliwat or below – that is, no more than 2 mw of energy absorbed by the exposed tissue.

Is is enough? Well, in a word – NO. Here’s why: at least one study has shown blood-brain barrier leakage of proteins from exposure levels of .02-4 miliwat/kg. In short, what this means is that the barrier between our blood supply and our brain can be breached by toxins and other molecules that are not meant to enter brain tissue and can wreak havoc there. For instance, a smoker is in danger of cancerous chemicals directly entering his brain tissue through the compromised blood-brain barrier.

These rates are determined by using rubber mannequin heads and probes to see how far the various levels of radiation penetrate into the brain. For an adult anyway, that radiation must first penetrate the hard skull, so there is a bit of protection there; unlike for a child.

Are cell phone companies compliant with the standard? Yes, most cell phone radiation levels fall well below the standard. They do so voluntarily as there are few countries with laws requiring compliance as yet. I believe this will change.

Is there an acceptable level of exposure? In short, no. At least not according to experts like Dr. Don Maisch, who is one of the leaders at the forefront of the battle to protect the public health. His website is an excellent resource: www.emfacts.com. Also Dr. Neil Cherry, New Zealand, (www.neilcherry.com) who was one of the first environmental scientists to sound the alarm regarding cell phone radiation saying there is no safe level of exposure.

If the mobile phone danger could be reduced such that it would take at least 100 years to accumulate enough exposure to be dangerous, then maybe it would be acceptable. The problem is that there are consequences and other implications along the way. Just like a smoker doesn’t smoke for 30 years and suddenly get cancer. Along the way, he’s wasting money, more susceptible to other illnesses like bronchitis, and other upper respiratory problems; reduced stamina, premature aging and other side effects are present from early on in the addiction.

Mobile phone radiation weakens the immune system making us more susceptible to other illnesses. Children are at risk for all kinds of developmental problems; teens more inclined to aggressive behavior and restlessness.

Are these acceptable risks? Driving a car is a risk, but an acceptable one. And with that, we take all possible precautions: buckling, driving cautiously; avoiding driving when we’ve been drinking or when we’re tired. Acceptable risk assumes a fairly certainly low level of risk, statistically. Using a cell phone does not carry that low level of risk. I’d say it’s safer to drive a car, fly in planes, and possibly even sky-dive proportionately as much as you use a cell phone and not incur the damage you will with a mobile phone.

Cell phone radiation exposure is not an acceptable risk. It just isn’t. So now you’re sitting there saying, “Ok, but what can I do about it? It’s here and it’s here to stay.” True, and even if you choose not to use a cell phone or limit its use (as I do) you are still being exposed by those around you as well as the presence of the cell phone towers.

The solution, then, is to get a seatbelt – that is, get protected any way and every way you can. My family and I all have SafeCell cell phone protection chips on our phones. I also wear a Q-Link wherever I go to protect me from the ambient radiation that is all around us. I avoid being near people who are speaking on a cell phone, in addition to the other Wise Cell Phone Use Tips posted previously.

I’m going to wrap it up here as I feel this post is quite long. I’d love to hear from you – especially to get you and your family protected. Don’t delay. Every day counts. Call me: (it’s a free call) 1-866-820-3431. Now. Just do it!

Israel Ministry of Health: Cell Phone Guidelines

The Israeli Ministry of Health has officially and publicly recognized
that cell phones pose health risks.

No more walking on tippy toes and egg shells to avoid waking the
sleeping giant, aka, THE CELL PHONE INDUSTRY.

The front page of one of Israel’s leading newspapers, Yediot Aharonot,
showed pictures indicating restrictions regarding cell phone use:
don’t speak in an elevator, keep away from body, keep away from kids,
and keep away from the sick (those with compromised immunity).
This issue came out on July 28th, and I happen to pick it up on the
plane in Miami on my return flight to Israel.

I’m relieved that this information has finally been presented to
the public in an unequivocal way – before we see another 50% increase
in the incidence of brain tumors. Remember, the battle for the truth
about cigarettes took at least 2 decades. But the battle has not
been won, the initial battlefield merely demarcated: the hearts and
minds of the consumer public.

Page 2 and 3 were full spreads about cell phone dangers:
“studies have already shown , but now the Ministry of Health has
determined: speaking on a cell phone can damage health…”
Though their solution is to “install more antennae to reduce the
level of radiation”. Hmmm.

And where do you think those antennae are going to go?
First, what’s the rationale? The rationale is that the phone, being
held against the head, and kept on the body, poses the most direct
and intense radiation exposure. Phones must increase their power,
and therefore their radiation output, where there are fewer and farther
cell phone towers. Cell phones and towers are in constant communication
and must be able to communicate in order for you to complete a call.

The more towers, the closer you’ll always be to one, reducing the
phone’s need to increase its power to complete your call.

Makes sense, right?

On the other hand, every time the cellphone company wants to put a
tower where you are – your neighborhood – there’s an outcry.

People – we can’t have it both ways!! We can’t eliminate towers and
have cell phones.

Cell phone towers will put more people in constant danger and without
their consent. All so their neighbor can have a good signal.

We’re all living in a wireless grid, so regardless of whether you
use a cell phone, you are being exposed. The closer you live or
work to a cell tower, the more exposure you’re getting. The more towers
we put up, the less escape there’ll be.

At this point, it’s all a matter of degree. Cell phone technology is
here to stay. Despite the risks, I don’t believe there’s enough will
to turn the clock back and put the technology back into Pandora’s box.

So, it’s a choice:
- either limit your exposure by using your cell phone for short,
essential and emergency calls only
- or we create an even more radiation saturated environment to reduce
our direct exposure from the cell phones.

Keep in mind, it’s not just humans being affected by this wireless grid -
it’s plants and animals, too. They’re our sustenance. What happens
when we make all life on the plane non-viable through our arrogant use
of technology? Food for thought.
